At Sujean Investments we believe that job creation is vitally important to the future of South Africa. In an effort to make a difference we have undertaken to donate the necessary property development expertise required by The Business Place to develop its property. The intention is to develop the property into a non-profit income producing entirety which will allow the organization to be less reliant on donor funding while providing the much needed support and secure business premises for local entrepreneurs.
We have successfully negotiated a joint venture with an international foundation which in partnership with the Jobs Fund has provided R80m in investment and grant funding allowing for the commencement of the first phase. In this phase, which has already commenced and will be completed in 2015, we are redeveloping the old cement factory building into a 6000m2 commercial hub primarily aimed at housing social businesses that can make a difference in Philippi. The building will include a multipurpose facility capable of accommodating conferences, cultural and sports events and training. It will also provide destination retail premises and 4000m2 of multi sized office units. This project has been chosen for the World Design Capital 2014 under the category “Bridging the divide”.
Phase two of the project will include the construction of mini industrial units and an innovative container village for small businesses to trade in. The additional phases will include sports, education, training and health care facilities as well as entertainment, retail and residential components.
In short, the intention of Philippi Village is to positively change and improve the lives of the residents of Philippi and the surrounding areas.
